Swimming & Diving Falls at Cal

TUCSON, Ariz. The Arizona men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams fell on the road to California at the Spieker Aquatics Complex on Saturday afternoon. The women were defeated by a score of 190-109, while the men fell 206-92.

On the women’s side, the Wildcats got off to a strong start to the meet as freshman Tjasa Oder took first-place in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:57.13, out-touching Catherine Breed of Cal by more than 12 seconds.

The big winner for the Wildcats on the day was sophomore Emma Schoettmer as she took home top honors in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.27 and in the 200 breast with a time of 2:13.30.

Ashley Evans had an impressive showing in the 200 fly as she won first-place with a time of 2:00.35.

Kevin Cordes continued his dominance as he won the 100 breast in 52.92 and the 200 breast with a time of 1:56.64.

In diving, freshman Michal Bower kept her momentum going as she won the 3-meter competition with a score of 297.30. Meanwhile, on the men’s side, Rafael Quintero took home first-place in the 1-meter with a score of 372.08 with teammate Carter Craft placing second with 296.70 points. Quintero also dominated the 3-meter competition as she scored 403.05 to earn first-place by more than 80 points.

The Wildcats return home to host a two-day dual meet against Texas on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s action is set to begin at 4 p.m. with the meet on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
