Final Two Matches

Jan 31, 2014

STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 7 Stanford squash team will play its final two matches of the regular season this weekend in Princeton, N.J. as they square off against No. 10 Brown and No. 4 Princeton.

On Saturday the Cardinal will be taking on Brown at 10 a.m. (PT) at the Jadwin Squash Courts on Princeton’s campus. The last time the two schools met was in the Howe Cup last year with Stanford taking the match in a convincing 9-0 fashion.

Brown has posted a 9-2 record this season and have won six straight contests. Both Brown and Stanford were in New Haven, Conn. last weekend but did not face each other as part of the Yale Round Robin. The only two losses for the Bears this season were to No. 6 Cornell (8-1) and No. 9 Columbia (6-3). Brown is 2-0 in neutral venues.

The Cardinal will face off against Princeton on Sunday. The Tigers won the meeting between the two schools last year, 8-1. Overall this year Princeton has tallied a record of 5-2 with both losses coming to top five teams in No. 1 Harvard (6-3) and No. 3 Penn (6-3). The Tigers have played only one home match prior to this weekend, beating Williams College, 9-0, on Nov. 24.

Stanford sits at 4-4 on the season and will be headed to the East Coast for the second straight weekend after going to New Haven, Conn. for three days of matches.  Senior Julia Hemmendinger has the best individual record for the Cardinal this season at 4-1. Also with four wins are freshman CC Ho (4-3) and junior Ally Huchro (4-4). Junior Madeleine Gill has played in the No. 1 position in all eight matches this season.

Following this weekend’s final two matches, Stanford will have three weeks off before heading back to Princeton for nationals Feb. 21-23.
