UCLA Track and Field in the Rankings

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women’s track and field team jumped 24Insert/Edit Link spots to now rank 10th in the country in the USTFCCCA poll, the organization announced Tuesday. In addition to the team ranking, 12 Bruins reside in the top 25 in their respective events, including two that hold the top mark in division I track and field.

Kelsey Smith ran the fastest 3,000m in division I this past weekend at the UW Invitational with a time of 9:04.31. That time is the second fastest in UCLA history. Smith also ranks 15th in the mile with a time of 4:42.00.

Joining Smith atop the national rankings is Kylie Price. The junior leaped 21-2 in the long jump this past weekend in New Mexico to set a new personal indoor best and hold the top mark in division I.

Also in the top-10 for the Bruins is Mike Woepse in the pole vault. Woepse opened the season with a clearance of 17-10.50 to rank fifth in the nation. Ida Storm ranks seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 68-5.

Just outside of the top-10, Nick Hartle has an altitude converted time of 1:49.04 in the 800m to rank 11th overall. He also checks in at 19th in the mile with a converted time of 4:01.92.

In the shot put newcomer Braheme Days ranks 15th with his New Mexico Team Invite winning mark of 61-11. Nicholas Scarvelis follows with a heave of 61-4.75 to rank 20th overall.

A duo of Bruins are ranked in the 5,000m as Nohe Lema is 16th in the nation with a time of 14:23.70 while Bronte Golick is 19th on the women’s side with a time of 16:49.88.

Rounding out the Bruins are Alec Faldermeyer in the weight throw with a mark of 66-3 that ranks 21st in the nation. Freshman Caroline Gyllenbern has cleared 5-10 in the high jump to rank 23rd while Elena Clarke posted a 13-4.25 in the pole vault to open the season to rank 25th overall.

The UCLA track and field team will continue its indoor campaign at the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational. The two-day meet will begin on Friday, Feb. 7, at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station.
