Pac-12 teams send 40 student-athletes to USA Volleyball tryouts

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Pac-12 volleyball teams will have 40 current and former student-athletes representing their schools this year at the 2014 open tryouts for the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team and U.S. Collegiate National Teams program. The tryouts will take place Feb. 21-23 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. 

OREGON leads the charge with seven players attending the tryouts, followed by ARIZONA STATE and UCLA with six apiece. ARIZONA, USC, UTAH and WASHINGTON STATE will see four current or former student-athletes each in the tryouts. CALIFORNIA, COLORADO and OREGON STATE have two each attending, while WASHINGTON will be represented by one player. 

Among the projected record 247 overall participants representing 107 different colleges are 63 liberos, 61 outside hitters, 36 setters and 27 opposites. The previous record for open tryout participants was 240, which was in 2013.
