Roundup: Stanford's Collins makes history
After signing with the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, Jason Collins made history as the first openly gay active NBA player as a result of his appearance in the Nets’ 108-102 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. His alma mater did some quality work on the court as well, as Stanford defeated then-No. 23 UCLA 83-74 to get to 9-5 in conference play. You know what was tight about that game? Stanford’s three-man alley-oop. Also, Stanford women’s hoops won the Pac-12 regular-season crown after beating UCLA 65-56.
“Most Impressive Win of the Weekend” award goes to Arizona, which destroyed Colorado 88-61 on its home court in front of a national audience. Kyle Ringo writes that Arizona’s romp in Boulder indicates that it has recovered from losing Brandon Ashley (I’ll say).
Jeff Borzello of CBS Sports believes that Oregon was a bubble winner over the weekend for being able to sweep the Washington schools and take a three-game win streak on the road to Southern California. (He also considered Cal a winner and ASU a loser.)
Washington smothered Oregon State in Corvallis Saturday, and C.J. Wilcox moved to second place on UW’s all-time scoring list, surpassing the big fella Jon Brockman.
