Cal’s Contest Versus Baylor Postponed to Saturday
SAN DIEGO – Rain in San Diego has forced a postponement of Cal baseball’s contest versus Baylor, scheduled for today (Friday, Feb. 28) at 11 a.m. at Fowler Park as part of the University of San Diego Tournament. The Golden Bears’ tournament scheduled will now include playing Baylor at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, and will then playing UNC Wilmington at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
At this time, Cal is still scheduled to play the University of San Diego at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, and Monday, March 3. The Bears then return home to host Bay Area rival Stanford on Tuesday, March 4 at 6 p.m. at Evans Diamond (shown on the Pac-12 Networks).
Cal is off to a 5-2 start after going 2-2 in the season-opening series versus Texas and sweeping through the Tiger Classic at Auburn last weekend (winning 3-0 over East Tennessee State, 5-0 over host Auburn, 8-3 over Arkansas Pine Bluff). The Bears’ pitching staff, led by freshman right-hander Daulton Jefferies (2-0, 0.00 ERA, two shutouts and 12 strikeouts in 13.0 innings), tops the Pac-12 with a 1.86 team ERA. Offensively, Cal is led by senior left fielder Vince Bruno, who is batting .471, third-best in the Pac-12.
