SAN DIEGO, Calif.—Led by junior Noemi Jimenez, the sixth-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team finished in fourth place at the SDSU Farms Invitational on Wednesday.  The Sun Devils shot a 14-over 302 in the final round, combining for a tournament total of 17-over 881 (295-284-302) at the par-72, 6,237-yard Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

Top-ranked USC took home the team championship at 3-under 861, with Karen Chung at the helm.  Chung won the individual title after shooting a blistering 6-under 66 in the final round.

“We had a solid fourth place finish,” said ASU Head Coach Melissa Luellen.  “And I’m proud of our girls because we had three top 20 individual performances.”

ASU’s Jimenez, who recorded her seventh top-10 finish of the season, tied for fifth with a three-day total of 1-over 217 (72-71-74).

In the final round, senior Justine Lee jumped four spots on the leader board after shooting a 1-over 73.  Through 54 holes, Lee shot a 3-over 219 (73-73-73) and tied for 13th overall.

Junior Emilie Alonso, who tied her career low of 68 in the second round, struggled with the back nine on Wednesday.  Alonso shot a three-round total of 4-over 220 (75-68-77), tying her for 16th place.

“We had an opportunity to have a great tournament, but it just didn’t get done today,” said Luellen.  “We were plagued by too many big numbers.”

Both Dani Ordonez and Monica Vaughn struggled to find their rhythm in the final round.  Ordonez tallied four bogeys and a double bogey for a 6-over 78.  Ordonez tied for 41st place overall with a 12-over 228 (78-72-78).  Despite hitting a rough patch halfway through the round, Vaughn finished strong with birdies on holes 13 and 16.  Vaughn tied for 43rd with a three-round total of 13-over 229 (75-75-79).

“In order to shine next week, we must eliminate the double bogeys,” said Luellen.  “We will be practicing and playing at Karsten a lot this week in preparation for our only home event of the year.”

The Sun Devils return to action April 4-6 when they host the PING/ASU Invitational at the par-71, 6,099-yard Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
