Hartig Wins Javelin At T&F?s ASU Invite Opener

TEMPE, Ariz.—Arizona State track and field’s redshirt junior Alex Hartig won the women’s javelin competition with a best throw of 44.50m (146-00) on Friday at Sun Angel Stadium.

Also for the Sun Devils, junior Kaitlyn Brace took fourth with a season-best throw of 41.43m (135-11) and sophomore Kelley Cahill placed eighth with a throw of 33.49m (109-10).

In women’s hammer competition, junior Jessika Byrd took third with a best throw of 58.84m (193-00) while redshirt freshman Ashley Weber placed eighth at 53.66m (176-00). Also for ASU, sophomore Ginger Jarchow placed 11th with a throw of 49.48m (162-04).

On the men’s side of the hammer throw, redshirt junior Ryan Leslie led the Sun Devils with a third-place mark of 56.60m (185-08), and redshirt junior Kyle Lillie followed in fourth with a throw of 54.02m (177-03). Redshirt freshman Kyle Long set a personal best with his throw of 52.04m (170-09).

Competition at the ASU Invite continues on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. PT with the discus. The running events will begin at 11:05 a.m. PT with the women’s 100m hurdles. The meet will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
