PULLMAN, Wash. – Junior Elizaveta Luzina’s win at No. 1 singles clinched the match as No. 48 Washington State posted a 4-0 victory over No. 40 Washington in a Pac-12 Conference match Friday afternoon at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. Coming off a win against the nation’s 25th-ranked player Thursday, Luzina, ranked No. 106, raced out to a quick start against No. 107 Elianne Douglas-Miron, winning the first set 6-1. It was 4-1 Luzina in the second set before Douglas-Miron launched a furious comeback, capitalizing on two service breaks to lead 6-5.  After Luzina held to force a tiebreaker, Douglas-Miron used an early mini-break to lead 3-1, but that was as close as she came. Luzina won the final six points to secure the victory.

The Cougars jumped out first, capturing the opening doubles point. At No. 1, the Husky pair of Elianne Douglas-Miron and Riko Shimizu were first off the court following an 8-2 win over Luzina and Lize Leenknecht. The match came down to No. 3 where the Cougar duo of Charlotte Koning and Dajana Ognjenovic earned an early broke and held on for an 8-5 win over Julija Lukac and Andjela Nemcevic, cementing the doubles point.

In singles play the Cougars quickly made it 2-0 as Musilovich had little trouble with Nemcevic, winning 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. After trailing early in both sets, Biryukova found a win to inch ahead and increased WSU’s lead to 3-0 as she defeated Ysidora 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2, setting the stage for Luzina.
