Pac-12 track and field athletes of the week announced

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- The Pac-12 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the the week of March 31-April 6:

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: STEVEN SOLOMON, STANFORD (So., Sydney, Australia). Sophomore Steven Solomon dominated the 400 meters at the Australian national championships, winning by 0.87 while recording a time of 45.36 to break a Stanford school record that had stood since 1994. It was the fastest 400 for Solomon since his run to the final at the 2012 Olympic Games and is the fifth-fastest in the world outdoors this year. Solomon secured a spot on Australia’s Commonwealth Games team with the victory.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: LAURA ROESLER, OREGON (Sr., Fargo, N.D.). Laura Roesler helped the Ducks to a 106-52 win at the Arizona-Oregon Pepsi Dual Challenge setting a meet record in the 800 meters at Hayward Field. She cruised to a time of 2:01.10 finishing first of six competitors. It is the fastest time in the NCAA in the event this season by more than three seconds. The senior is the two-time defending Pac-12 Champion in the 800-meter. Roesler is the second-straight UO runner to claim Pac-12 women’s track athlete of the week honors.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: AVERY MICKENS, ARIZONA (Fr., Surprise, Ariz.). Freshman Avery Mickens had a busy day at the Arizona-Oregon Pepsi Dual, competing in four events. He placed first in the long jump with a wind-aided mark of 24-11.25/7.60m out of seven competitors. He also helped the then-No. 16 Wildcats to a first-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay running the first leg to lead the team to a time of 42.85 seconds. He also placed third in the high jump (6-4/1.93m) and also ran in the third leg of the 4x400-meter relay (3:18.46).

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: KYLIE PRICE, UCLA (Jr., Chino Hills, Calif.). Junior Kylie Price finished first of nine competitors in the long jump at the Battle on the Bayou in Baton Rouge, La. The meet included five teams, three of which were ranked in the top 15, including the No. 13 Bruins. Price jumped the fifth-best mark in the country, soaring to a mark of 20-9/6.32m. She also scored a point in the 200 meter with a time of 24.37 and helped UCLA to a fourth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay (45.54).
