CORVALLIS, Ore. – Jonas Liebich (YO-nas LEE-bick) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Oregon State men’s golf program for the 2014-15 season, head coach Jon Reehoorn announced on Thursday.

Liebich, a native of Ingolstadt, Germany, attends Cristoph-Scheiner-Gymnasium and is a member of the German Boys’ National Team.

“We are very excited to add Jonas to our golf program,” Reehoorn said. “As a member of the German National team he brings the experience of competing for his country all over the globe. Nothing he sees in college golf will intimidate him.

“As a player, his strength is his length and ball striking. With golf becoming an Olympic sport, countries all over the world are investing in developing their youth, and Jonas has been the beneficiary of receiving great instruction and development as a member of the National team. We expect Jonas to compete for a spot in our starting five next year and make the same kind of contributions Alex (Franklin) and Kevin (Murphy) are making now. I can’t wait to get him on campus in September.”

In 2013 Liebich represented Germany in the British Boys Championship, the European Boys’ Team Championship and the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan. He is a three-time Bavarian Champion and finished second at the Czech International Boys Championship and fifth at the U-16 Italy Boys Championship in 2012.

Liebich says his biggest thrill is “playing with Dustin Johnson in the 2011 BMW International Open Pro-Am.” His uncle attended Oregon State on an exchange program.
