No. 6 Women?s Golf in Fifth Place at Pac-12 Championships

CORVALLIS, Ore.?Led by freshman and Oregon native Monica Vaughn, the sixth-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team is in fifth place after the first round of the 2014 Pac-12 Championships on Friday.? The Sun Devils shot a 3-over 291 at the par-72, 6,256-yard Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore.?

Vaughn, who sat atop the individual leader board for a good portion of round one, got off to a hot start on the front nine, carding four birdies.? After a double bogey on 12 and a bogey on the 18th, Vaughn finished the day tied for fifth with a 2-under 70.

Junior Noemi Jimenez, golfing in the No. 1 spot for the Sun Devils, shot a 1-over 73.? After one round of play, Jimenez is tied for 15th overall.

Junior Emilie Alonso and seniors Justine Lee and Laura Blanco each shot a 2-over 74 on Friday.? Lee, who was 1-under after the front nine, carded three bogies on the back nine to bring her to 2-over par.? Blanco struggled with the front nine, carding bogies on holes three, four, and five.? Alonso, Lee, and Blanco are tied for 20th. ???

Stanford’s Mariko Tumangan is currently in first after shooting a 5-under 67.? Second-ranked UCLA leads the pack with a 3-under 285.? The Bruins, No. 9 Stanford, and No.11 Arizona are the only teams under par after the first round.?

The second round of the 2014 Pac-12 Championships starts tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. at Trysting Tree Golf Club.? Live scoring for the tournament is available at www.golfstat.com.
