Women’s Golf in Third at Pac-12 Championships
TUCSON, Ariz. – After battling hail and inclement weather on Friday, No. 11 University of Arizona women’s golf sits in third place after day one at the Pac-12 Championships. Hosted by Oregon State at Trysting Tee Golf Club (par 72, 6,256 yards) in Corvallis, Ore, competition is being held Fri.-Sun., April 25-27.
Arizona led the team race by as many as three strokes on day one of play before being halted by inclement weather for a one hour and 27-minute delay. The Wildcats finished the day one-under par with a 287, good for a third-place standing. No. 2 UCLA leads the team race with a three-under round of 285. No. 9 Stanford sits in second place with a two-under par score of 286. Mariko Tumangan of Stanford leads the individual race with a five-under par score of 67.
No. 13 sophomore Lindsey Weaver sits in second place after round one with a score of 68 (-4), her 13th round at or below par this season. She is one stroke off the individual lead. Junior Manon Gidali and No. 35 Wanasa Zhou share a four-way tie for 11th place. They both fired even-par rounds of 72. Friday’s play marks Gidali’s second and Zhou’s sixth rounds at or below par on the season.
No. 92 freshman Jessica Vasilic shares a seven-way tie for 29th place. She shot an opening round of 75 (+3) on Friday. Junior Kendall Prince rounds out the Arizona five in an eight-way tie for 36th place.
Round two begins at 9:40 a.m. MST/PT on Saturday for the Wildcats. Arizona is paired with No. 8 Washington. One round of play will be contested each day with 9 a.m. MST/PT tee times for Friday and Saturday and an 8:30 a.m. MST/PT start on Sunday.
