Two Wildcats Earn All-Pac-12 Honors

Apr 28, 2014

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Two members of the University of Arizona men's golf team have earned conference honors, announced the Pac-12 on Monday. Senior Erik Oja earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors and junior Alex McMahon received honorable mention accolades.

Selections were made through voting by the Pac-12 men's golf coaches.

“It feels good to have two players from our conference recognized for individual performance," head coach Jim Anderson said. "Erik’s year has been nothing short of phenomenal, especially when you look at the fact he has finished 13th or better in each of the 12 events we played. Alex just kept competing and improving this year, and we are very proud of him. These two guys have carried the load for our team each week and adding them to the All-Conference teams is an accolade they deserve.”

The 54th ranked Oja has finished 13th or better in all of the tournaments this season, including eight top-10 finishes. Oja was also recently named to the Palmer Cup's European team.

“Erik is very deserving of first team," Anderson said. "Maybe because our team has had ups and downs, he hasn’t received as much individual attention. But it is very difficult to ignore the body of work he has assembled especially when you consider the consistency he demonstrated."

McMahon was consistently number two in the lineup, providing numerous eight top-20 finishes with half of those in the top-10.

“Alex is a competitive, athletic guy and has worked very hard to create an identity for himself on our team," Anderson said. " His work ethic has got him to this point and I know receiving this honor will instill even more confidence in him moving forward. He will start next year knowing he belongs in this group and will look to pick up where he left off this Spring."
