Wrestlers & Women's Crew Display Top Talent

May 1, 2014

“The talent this year; people put some time into it. It was a lot of fun.”

Those comments from head football coach Mike Riley following the 11th Annual The Other Side Talent Show held Wednesday night at the LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State campus. Riley and his wife, Dee, served as judges with four other Beaver Athletics celebrities.

Women’s rowing and wrestling took home the top honors, but everybody was a winner Tuesday night. Donations of nearly $1,100 from the event will be split between the OSU Emergency Food Pantry and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The Other Side was the brainchild of former Beaver student-athlete Courtney Carter, who returned for this year’s show, as a way of honoring two men’s soccer players – Stephen Hensor and Joe Zaher --  both tragically passed away in 2002.

“This event gives people a chance to see student-athletes in a much different atmosphere,” Assistant Athletic Director Linda Johnson said. “It’s truly amazing to see what these young men and women can do outside of where we typically see them on the fields and in the arenas.”

Each of OSU’s 17 intercollegiate sports programs were represented in a variety of performances ranging from music, dance and comedy.

Keep a watch for the 12th Annual The Other Side during the first few months of 2015.
