WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Patrick Rodgers of STANFORD has been named the Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Month for April, the Pac-12 announced today.
The junior from Avon, Ind., earns the honor for the second straight month as he paced the Cardinal to a pair of team victories that included the Western Intercollegiate (Apr. 12-13) and the Pac-12 Championship (Apr. 25-27). The Pac-12 title was Stanford’s first since 1994.
At the Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif., Rodgers fired a 5-under 203 (65-69-71) to finish second by two strokes to teammate Cameron Wilson.
At the Pac-12 Championship in Marana, Ariz., Rodgers posted a 7-under 281 (71-65-73-72) to earn medalist honors. During his second round at The Gallery Golf Club, Rodgers carded three eagles in an eight-hole stretch and built a six stroke lead he didn’t relinquish on the way to his 10th career victory. That now leaves him one win shy of matching Tiger Woods’ school record of 11 victories.
Rodgers, the 2014 Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Year, has won five times this season, including four in the last five tournaments.
The Pac-12 title gave Stanford its fourth team win over the last five tournaments and moved the Cardinal up to No. 4 in the latest Golfweek rankings. Other Pac-12 teams listed among the Top 25 include No. 6 CALIFORNIA, No. 9 WASHINGTON, No. 18 UCLA and No. 25 USC.
The Pac-12 will now await the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships selections next Monday, May 5. NCAA Men’s Golf Regional action gets underway on May 15-17.
Also nominated for golfer of the month honors were Erik Oja, Sr., ARIZONA; Eric Sugimoto, Jr., USC; Trevor Simsby, Sr., WASHINGTON.
