Fans Select Sun Devil Baseball All-Packard Team
TEMPE, Ariz. – Thirty former Arizona State University baseball student-athletes were selected by fans for the All-Packard Stadium Team, The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com announced May 7.
The All-Packard Stadium Team is compromised of Sun Devils who played at ASU from 1974-2014, and includes three catchers, nine infielders, nine outfielders and nine pitchers. Read Jeff Metcalfe’s take on the team on azcentral.com.
Online voting ran for two months on sundevils.azcentral.com and the first 1,500 fans inside the gate at Packard Stadium on May 9 will receive a commemorative 30-card set of the all All-Packard Stadium Team trading cards.
The creation of this team is part of the program’s season-long celebration of the 40th and final year at Packard Stadium. All seven home weekend baseball series’ during the 2014 “Tip You Cap To Packard” season have been dedicated to honoring a different decade or aspect of Packard Stadium and Sun Devil Baseball’s storied legacy.
May 20 will mark the final regular season game in the historic park, which has played host to more than 1,100 victories, 80 NCAA Postseason games, 16 conference titles and two national championship teams.
Twenty ASU Hall of Famers, nearly 100 All-Americans and 350 Major League Baseball draft picks, including 22 first round selections, honed their skills at the intersection of Rio Salado Parkway and Rural Road.
From home runs over the “Green Monster” in center field to dog piles in the infield, a school-record 65 victories in 1976 to an NCAA-record 506 consecutive games of scoring at least one run, Packard Stadium played an integral role in the growth and success of the program.

Seven Sun Devils received more than 1,000 votes, including Floyd Bannister, Barry Bonds, Bob Horner, Mike Leake, Paul Lo Duca, Oddibe McDowell, and the top overall vote-getter, Dustin Pedroia.
