WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - With the WNBA 2014 regular season getting underway tonight, 13 former Pac-12 players are on opening-day rosters. Seven different Pac-12 schools are represented among eight different WNBA teams. Five different games are slated for the opener, including a tilt between the L.A. Sparks and Seattle Storm which will feature four former league players, three of which are from STANFORD.

The Cardinal have the most representation in the WNBA with six players earning roster spots for opening day. Among the players donning a WNBA uniform this summer are No. 1 Draft picks and sisters Nnemkadi and Chiney Ogwumike. The duo became only the second siblings to each be drafted No. 1 in a major American sport. Each attended Stanford, playing together for two years. During their tenures, they helped the Cardinal reach the NCAA Women’s Final Four five times in six years. Nnemkadi embarks on her third year in the pros as a member of the Sparks, while Chiney tips off her rookie campaign with the Connecticut Sun.

CALIFORNIA also has two former Golden Bears on opening day rosters, including Layshia Clarendon and Gennifer Brandon. Clarendon was drafted in the first round by the Indiana Fever last year after she led Cal to its first-ever Final Four appearance. Brandon was on that same Cal team and was drafted in the second round by the Chicago Sky this year. Clarendon and Brandon meet each other tonight when the Shy hosts the Fever. Former ARIZONA STATE Sun Devil Briann January will also play in that game as a member of the Fever.

ARIZONA, ARIZONA STATE, COLORADO, UCLA and USC each have one former player in a WNBA uniform this season. A full list of players with college and pro team affiliations can be found below.

Other former Pac-12 players going head-to-head on opening night are the New York Liberty’s Chucky Jeffery (COLORADO)  and the Sun’s Chiney Ogwumike and Kayla Pedersen (Stanford) with the Connecticut Sun.
