FINA Intercontinental Tournament Begins Tuesday in Riverside
RIVERSIDE, CA - May 19 - Eight of the best teams in international women's water polo arrived in Riverside, California TODAY for the 2014 FINA Intercontinental Tournament. The event starts Tuesday at the Riverside Aquatics Complex at 3pm PST with Brazil and Venezuela meeting in the opening game. The USA Women's Senior National Team begins competition with a 7:15 p.m. match against Japan.
Four players with UCLA ties are on the roster for this tournament: defenders KK Clark, current sophomore Alys Williams, and attackers Jillian Kraus and Priscilla Orozco.
Prior to the start of the tournament, teams competed in exhibition matches. Team USA hosted Australia in an exhibition match at 6 p.m. The match featured special rules including five on five play in the field.
Team USA Head Coach Adam Krikorian has announced his roster for the tournament. The 13 athletes that will compete in Riverside are led by veterans and two-time Olympians Betsey Armstrong (Ann Arbor, MI/Michigan/NYAC) and Kami Craig (Santa Barbara, CA/USC/SBWPF).
