Women’s Golf Seventh at NCAA Championships
TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 11 University of Arizona women’s golf completed the collegiate season with the final round of play at the NCAA Championships on Friday. Hosted by Tulsa and held at Tulsa Country Club (par 70, 6,194 yards) in Tulsa, Okla., competition took place Tues.-Fri., May 20-23.
No. 11 Arizona and No. 22 Ohio shared seventh place with scores of 1,158 (+38). The Wildcats had daily rounds of 298, 286, 287 and 287.
Friday marks UA’s highest NCAA finish since fifth in 2010 and its 16th top-10 finish in program history at the NCAA Championships. UA finished ahead of No. 10 Alabama (ninth), No. 8 Vanderbilt (tied for 10th), No. 4 South Carolina (13th) and No. 6 Washington (17th).
No. 3 Duke won the NCAA Championship with a 1,130 (+10). No. 1 USC finished second with a 1,132 (+12). No. 2 UCLA rounded out the top three with a 1,145 (+25). No. 33 Doris Chen of USC won the NCAA Individual Championship with a 274 (-6).
For the second-straight tournament, junior Manon Gidali was Arizona’s top finisher in a three-way tie for seventh place, her highest finish at an NCAA Championships event and UA’s best solo performance since Margarita Ramos also finished tied for seventh in 2010. She shot a score of 282 (+2) and daily rounds of 73, 67, 74 and 68. Her 67 from round two was a season low and, coupled with her round-four carding of 68, she shot six rounds at or below par on the season.
No. 18 sophomore Lindsey Weaver finished in a seven-way tie for 16th place. She ended with a score of 285 (+5) and daily rounds of 72, 69, 72 and 72. She wrapped up the season with 15 rounds played at or below par and a season low of 67.
Junior Kendall Prince finished in an eight-way tie for 59th. With daily rounds of 76, 74, 69 and 75, she scored a 294 (+14). No. 57 freshman Wanasa Zhou scored a 301 (+21) with rounds of 77, 76, 72 and 76. She finished in a four-way tie for 84th place. Freshman Jessica Vasilic finished tied for 111th with a score of 305 (+25).
