Oregon State baseball starts its postseason quest Friday, and The Oregonian has a sweet article about how coach Pat Casey dared to dream, and now Oregon State is the class of college baseball. There’s something about these Oregon State coaches who come from George Fox (don’t forget about Scott Rueck)…

Washington baseball is trekking out to the Ole Miss regional, and Gregg Bell writes that Washington arrives at the Ole Miss regional with strength – and Om, closer Troy Rallings’ spiritual necklace. The Dawgs open up with Georgia Tech at 1 p.m. PT.

The Forks are heading to Cal Poly, and the reliable Ryan Kellogg has led Arizona State baseball into the postseason. The pitcher is 14-1 in Pac-12 contests over the course of his career. The Sun Devils start with Pepperdine Friday at 1 p.m.

Mark Marquess’ boys are in Indiana, and a role change helped Stanford’s John Hochstatter get on a roll (clever headline, Tom FitzGerald). The lefty’s insertion into the starting rotation helped fuel Stanford’s turnaround to get the team to where it is Friday, taking on Indiana State at 11 a.m.

The Ducks are also in regional play, but let’s talk about the other diamond sport in this space. Oregon softball pitcher Cheridan Hawkins one-hit Florida State to propel the Ducks to a 3-0 win in their WCWS opener Thursday, and one Duck (former pitcher Jessica Moore) predicted that Hawkins would outpitch the national player of the year (Florida State’s Lacey Waldrop). The Ducks get the Florida Gators next (Friday at 4 p.m. PT on ESPN2).

The NCAA track & field preliminaries are going down, and already Cal’s Hammed Suleman and Kelsey Santisteban booked trips to Eugene for the NCAA championships with standout performances in the long jump (Suleman) and 10,000 meters (Santisteban).

Following up on contract extension talk, the Arizona coaches and AD are receiving contract perks in oil and gas stock if they (Rich Rodriguez, Sean Miller and Greg Byrne) stay at Arizona for the next eight years. Of course, the Board of Regents must approve.

UCLA football announced five kickoff times for the 2014 season, with its home opener against Memphis being televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
