EUGENE, Ore.—Arizona State track and field’s men’s 4x100m relay team qualified for the finals on Wednesday at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.

The team of redshirt senior Ryan Milus, senior Will Henry, redshirt junior Devan Spann, and senior Daveon Collins took second in the opening heat of competition with a time of 39.26, automatically qualifying for Saturday’s final, which is set for 2:03 p.m. PT.

The women’s team of senior Asiah Gooden, junior Brianna Tate, senior Alycia Herring, and freshman LaTroya Franklin ran 44.75 for 13^th overall, fifth in their heat. While they did not advance, they have earned second-team All-America honors for placing in the top-16 in the country.

Also for ASU, Tate placed eighth in her heat of the 400m dash with a time of 54.21.

Competition continues at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, and the Sun Devils will begin at 2 p.m. PT as redshirt senior Anna Jelmini competes in the discus trials and finals. ASU will also have competitors in four semifinal events: Spann in the 200m dash, junior Shelby Houlihan in the 1500m run, and both the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams.

ESPN3 is set to air Thursday’s competition, beginning at 3:55 p.m. PT. Friday’s and Saturday’s events will be aired on ESPNU at 4:30 p.m. PT and 2 p.m. PT, respectively.
