Silverio Names Giannoni Assistant Women?s Tennis Coach

EUGENE, Ore. – Tony Giannoni, a former assistant at UCF, has been named as assistant coach with the University of Oregon women’s tennis team, head coach Alison Silverio announced today.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to join such a great university,” said Giannoni. “I’m excited to get to Eugene and start working with the student-athletes.”

Giannoni joins the Ducks after spending the last five years with the Knights.

“I’m extremely excited to have Tony join my staff here at Oregon,” Silverio said. “He has the belief in our championships vision and will bring invaluable experience. His consistent work ethic and passion will create a standard for excellence.”

Silverio and Giannoni have known each other for a while, as they have frequently crossed paths on the recruiting trails. “I trust in his abilities as a coach, but more importantly I trust in Tony’s character and integrity,” said Silverio.

During his time in Orlando, Fla., UCF posted a 56-47 overall record with a 9-4 mark in Conference USA and a 0-3 mark in the American Athletic Conference this past season. In his first season, the Knights went 13-7 and 4-1 in C-USA. UCF’s 9-2 start that season in dual play marked the program’s best start to a season since 1998-99.

Giannoni also oversaw Jenna Doefler, who captured the ITA Summer Circuit title hosted by Florida State as well as Courtney Griffith, who won the ITA Summer Circuit event hosted by Georgia in 2011.

The Miami, Fla., native helped guide the Knights to 14 victories during the 2012-13 season, the program’s best season since the 1990-00 season. Giannoni also helped freshman Caroline Eberhart reach the 25 singles wins plateau that year, the fourth-best mark in a single season at UCF.

Giannoni, a 2005 graduate of Florida, served as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater for two years (2007-09) prior to joining the Knights. In his first year at his alma mater, the Gators were 24-3 overall and went undefeated in the Southeastern Conference (11-0). UF also advanced to the NCAA Final Four that year. Before leaving Gainesville after the 2008-09 season, Giannoni helped guide Florida to the Sweet Sixteen.

“I would like to thank Alison, Eric Roedl and the entire search committee for the great opportunity,” Giannoni said. “I’d also like to thank the administration at UCF for everything the past five years.”
