Roundup: Robert Johnson is national coach of the year

Oregon track and field coach Robert Johnson is the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Men’s Head Coach of the Year, while his assistant Andy Powell was named the Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year. The Oregon men won their first team title in three decades this year.


The FIFA Women’s World Cup is next summer, so keep in mind that Alex Morgan scored two goals Thursday against France (both in the second half) to help the Americans to a 2-2 draw with the French. They were her first goals in more than a year (she was sidelined for seven months with an ankle injury).

Gina Mizell has a nice story on the wealth of experience new Oregon State women’s basketball assistant coach Jonas Chatterton brings to Corvallis.


We linked to a Dirk Facer story about Sooner-turned-Ute Kendal Thompson Thursday, and now he lets us know that Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops is rooting for Thompson. Stoops was at a Utah high school Thursday to speak at a camp.
