TEMPE, Ariz.—Arizona State track and field’s NCAA Champions, junior Shelby Houlihan and redshirt junior Bryan McBride, will be honored for their accomplishments this season at the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game on Tuesday at Chase Field.
In the 1500m finals. Houlihan overcame a late press in the last 200 meters to win in 4:18.10. This marks the first national title of her Sun Devil career, the first-ever title in this event in program history, and the 33rd women’s outdoor title in ASU history.
In the high jump, McBride cleared the winning bar of 2.28m (7-5.75), a lifetime best, on his third and final try, which moved him up to No. 2 in the ASU outdoor track and field record book.
This marks ASU’s first champion in the high jump since Kyle Arney won the event in 1977 with his school record clearance of 2.29m (7-6.00). McBride has won the 24th men’s outdoor title in Sun Devil history, the 12th in a field event.
The Sun Devils have had at least one outdoor national champion every year since 2006.
The D-Backs will be facing the Cleveland Indians at 6:40 p.m. PT.
