Roundup: Riley is 8th longest-tenured head coach in FBS

Jul 3, 2014

Hey, did you know that Oregon State head coach Mike Riley enters 2014 as the eighth-longest tenured head coach in the FBS? He is entering his 12th straight season and 14th overall with the Beavs (a foray into the NFL provided the interruption).

Updating a story that has been trickling on for months, the University of Utah has offered an alternative version to the school’s fight song. In the updated version, the word “man” has been changed to “fan” and the lines “our coeds are the fairest” and “no other gang of college men” are now “our students are the finest” and “no rival band of college fans.” The song will still be named “Utah Man" and the school is "not enforcing the changes."

It now sounds like former USC quarterback Max Wittek might join Hawai’i as a walk-on, if you are to believe the Yahoo! Sports link provided. Props to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser as well.

Washington defensive end Josh Shirley is leaving the team and hoping to play his senior year at a school closer to his native Southern California, according to Adam Jude and Yahoo! Sports.

Washington State football defensive lineman Xavier Cooper has been named to the CFPA Defensive Lineman Trophy watch list. Other Pac-12ers on the list include Tony Washington (Oregon), Leonard Williams (USC) and Hau’oli Kikaha (Washington).

Oregon softball has signed Nebraska transfer Hailey Decker, the school announced Thursday. The Oregon native hit .369 with 14 home runs and 53 RBI for the Huskers and was a first team all-Big Ten selection last season. She will be a junior and does not have to sit out a year.

Jon Rothstein thinks Cal men’s basketball guard Sam Singer will be the X factor for the team’s upcoming season. He has some big shoes to fill with Justin Cobbs gone. The CBS Sports college basketball guru also thinks Jon Octeus’ transfer to UCLA could make the Bruins one of the top contenders to Arizona in the Pac-12 race.

One more Jon Rothstein link, because he’s the man (and also because he’s reporting relevant Pac-12 news): Former Providence guard Josh Fortune is transferring to Colorado.

JC Shurburtt of 247 Sports believes that Arizona State’s Todd Graham is one of the most underrated coaches in college football.

Good to see ya again, Anthony Gimino. He previews Arizona football’s tight ends for us. Much obliged, good sir.

Campus Insiders gives us a College Football Playoff prognosis for Stanford. Gonna be a tough road with games at Oregon, Arizona State, UCLA, Washington and Notre Dame.

Let’s watch UCLA’s Cold Water Challenge. Joe Bruin gets drenched!

The roundup is off for July 4th. USA No. 1.
