GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA – Cal Olympic gold medalist Nathan Adrian won the silver medal in the 100 free Friday during the second day of the Pan Pacific Championships in Gold Coast, Australia, finishing second to Australia’s Cameron McEvoy, who won with a Pan Pacific record 47.82. Adrian clocked in at 48.30.

Another former Golden Bear Olympic gold medalist, Anthony Ervin, placed third in the B Final of the 100 free with a time of 49.20.

A third Cal representative competing Friday at the Pan Pacs was junior standout Josh Prenot, who swam a time of 4:16.62 in the prelims of the 400 IM.

On Thursday, Cal’s Ryan Murphy continued his impressive performance against the world’s top swimmers as the sophomore placed third in the 100-meter back. Murphy, who had captured two silver medals at the U.S. Nationals two weeks ago, won bronze in Australia with a time of 53.27.

As a freshman for Durden’s squad in 2013-14, Murphy was the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year and was the 2014 NCAA champion in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, helping Cal to its third NCAA team title in the last four years. Prenot was the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year in 2013, and is the two-time conference champion in the 400-yard IM.

During the 2014 U.S. Nationals, Adrian was the champion in the 100 free and Ervin was the champion in the 50 free. Adrian was the 2012 Olympic gold medalist in the 100 free, while the 33-year-old Ervin was the 2000 Olympic gold medalist in the 50 free.
