DiRado Golden at PanPacs

Aug 25, 2014

GOLD COAST, Australia -- Maya DiRado concluded the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships with a win in the 200 IM Sunday. DiRado helped Team USA claim first in the medal standings with 14 golds and 40 overall medals.

The 2014 NCAA champion in the 200 and 400 IM paced the Pan Pacific field in 2:09.93, establishing a meet record. Australia’s Alica Coutts came in second at 2:10.25.

“My fly has been feeling really easy this week, so I think I was able to get out well,” DiRado said. “I knew I had to push the backstroke because all the other girls are really good at breaststroke. I think my breaststroke must have been OK, and then I had a lot left coming home in freestyle, so it all came together.”

DiRado, a management science and engineering major at Stanford, also earned silver in the 400 IM and took ninth in the 200 fly earlier in the meet.
