UCLA Freshman Seyi Adekoya Named Pac-12 Player of the Week

Sep 2, 2014

UCLA freshman Seyi Adekoya was named the Pac-12 Men's Soccer Player of the Week after contributing to the goal-scoring in each of the top-ranked Bruins' road wins last weekend.

Adekoya, a forward from Seattle, Wash., came off the bench to score a goal in the 3-1 win at No. 11 Wake Forest and assisted on the game’s only goal in a 1-0 victory at No. 10 North Carolina just six minutes after entering the game. The freshman was sent a long ball forward and chested it back to Leo Stolz, who caught the goalkeeper out of position and slotted a shot off the left post and into the back of the net for the game-winner in the 31st minute. Adekoya is tied for the team lead in scoring with three points off one goal and one assist.

This is Adekoya’s first-career weekly honor and UCLA’s 54th all-time player of the week selection.

The Bruins (2-0) will be on the road again this week, this time in Albuquerque, where they will face American University on Friday, Sept. 5 at 3:30 pm PT and New Mexico on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 5 pm.
