Getting to Know: Isabel Damiani

With 12 freshmen on this year's Cal women's soccer squad, head coach Neil McGuire has plenty of talent to choose from in replacing a number of graduated veteran starters. caught up with the newcomers to hear their impressions so far of the Berkeley campus, as well as find out more about what makes these Bears special! After a few months on campus, defender Isabel Damiani has finally settled in. She chats about the three people she would invite to dinner and more in this edition of Inside the Lair's "Getting to Know..." spotlight. What made you choose Cal?

Isabel Damiani: The culture and location but also definitely the athletic as well as academic reputation.

CB: What are your hobbies outside of soccer?

Damiani: I love listening to and finding new music and also occasionally playing guitar/singing.

CB: What’s your favorite part about Berkeley or the Cal campus?

Damiani: All of the different food options.

CB: Did you grow up watching Cal athletics? What is it like to be able to represent the Golden Bears?

Damiani: No I didn’t but it’s an amazing experience, especially being part of a team with such incredible individuals.

CB: What are you planning on or thinking of majoring in, and what are your career goals?

Damiani: I’m still undecided, but pre-Haas is an option.

CB: What class are you most looking forward to this fall?

Damiani: My integrative bio seminar!

CB: What was your initial impression of Berkeley?

Damiani: It’s so big I’m going to get lost.

CB: Which three people (dead or alive) would you invite to dinner?

Damiani: John Lennon, Oscar Emboaba, and my grandfather.  

CB: When you were a little kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Damiani: A singer (a bigger & better Britney)

CB: Do you have a nickname – if so, what is it?

Damiani: Izzy

CB: What is your favorite food or meal?

Damiani: Yogurt covered pretzels
