Jerry Neuheisel, Paul Perkins help UCLA beat Texas in Brett Hundley's absence

With star quarterback Brett Hundley leaving the game with an injury in the first quarter agaisnt Texas, UCLA needed someone to step up on offense. That void was filled by backup quarterback Jerry Neuheisel and running back Paul Perkins in a 20-17 win against Texas.

Perkins ripped off a 58-yard run on the first play of the second half to set the tone. He finished with 24 carries for 126 yards.

Neuhesiel finished off the early second-half drive with a touchdown pass to even the game at 10 points apiece. Neuheisel, son of Pac-12 Networks analyst Rick Neuheisel, then came through when the Bruins needed it most, scoring on a go-ahead touchdown pass. The connection with receiver Jordan Payton came with three minutes remaining. It helped the quarterback finish the game completing 23-of-30 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns.
