SAN DIEGO – The top-ranked Stanford women’s volleyball team swept Eastern Washington, 25-11, 25-19, 25-16, Friday, in the USD Invitational at the Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego, Calif. The Cardinal improves to 9-0 overall, while the Eagles fall to 4-8.

Stanford hit .339 as a team while holding Eastern Washington to a -.024 clip. The Cardinal recorded a season high 11 aces. Junior Inky Ajanaku, junior Brittany Howard and freshman Sidney Brown led the team with five kills each. Senior libero Kyle Gilbert finished with 10 digs.

Stanford posted a 25-11 win in the opening set, hitting .500 as a team. The Cardinal registered eight aces in the set, including two apiece from senior Kyle Gilbert, junior Madi Bugg and sophomore Grace Kennedy. Stanford held Eastern Washington to a .176 hitting percentage in the set.

Sophomore Kelsey Humphreys started the second set at setter and led the Cardinal to a 25-19 victory. Humphreys, a native of Newport Beach, Calif., collected six assists and four digs in the set. Stanford held EWU to a -.027 team hitting percentage.

The Cardinal completed the sweep, its fifth of the season, with a 25-16 win in the third. Ajanaku led the team with three kills and six blocks in the set.

Senior opposite Kelsey Julian led Eastern Washington with a match-high eight kills, while junior Allie Schumacher added six kills.

The Cardinal closes out the USD Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 20 against CSUN. First serve is slated for 11 a.m. PT in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
