Sep 20, 2014

HOUSTON--- The University of Arizona men’s tennis team wrapped up day two of the Rice Invitational with some strong individual performances at the Jake Hess Tennis Center on Saturday

Junior transfer Jason Jaruvang began the day with convincing 6-1, 7-6 (3) victory over TU’s Ian Sneddon in main draw singles play, before eventually falling to LU’s Nikita Li in a tough three-set affair.

Junior Naoki Takeda had himself a day, racking up three consecutive wins in consolation play without dropping a single set. Takeda took down UTA’s Mario Muniesa (6-2, 6-2), UTSA’s Diego Casa (6-4, 6-4), and UTA’s Daniel Amengol (1-1, retired) en route to his perfect day.

Senior Carolos Bermudez came up with a win in his first match of the day, defeating TU’s Cedric Rutsaert (6-3, 6-3) in straight sets, before dropping his second and final match of the afternoon.

The Wildcats saw some success in doubles action as well, as Jaruvang and Bermudez teamed up to defeat UTSA’s Casa and Rother (6-4) in convincing fashion.

Arizona will conclude tournament action tomorrow, in what will mark the final day of the Rice Invitational.
