Marker Selected to Riviera/ ITA All-American Championships

SKILLMAN, NJ – University of Arizona sophomore Lauren Marker has been selected to participate in the 2014 Riviera/ ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., as announced by the ITA.

Marker will enter the event slotted as the nation’s 58th best player according the ITA preseason singles poll, as she’ll compete against some of the country’s best college tennis players, including 16 from the Pac-12, in the qualifying singles portion of the tournament.

The All-American Championship dates back to 1983 and the Riviera Tennis Club has played host to the event since 1988. It is the premier fall tournament in college tennis and features the top 128 players at the NCAA Division I level, as voted by the coaches. This year's event will begin on Saturday, September 27 with prequalifying singles and doubles matches, which will be hosted by UCLA. Main draw action will begin on Oct. 2-5th.

This will mark the second consecutive year Arizona has sent a participant to the prestigious event. Former Wildcat Lacey Smyth posted a 1-1 mark in the singles qualifying portion of the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships, as she defeated California’s Lynn Chi in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, before falling to Mississippi State’s Georgiana Patrasc, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Kim Stubbe also competed in the pre-qualifying singles portion of the tournament and fell to Auburn’s Michala Kucharova 7-5, 6-7, 6-2.
