Shaw Named’s Player of the Week

Oct 1, 2014

BERKELEY – Cameron Shaw was named’s Player of the Week on Wednesday one day after winning his first collegiate event by sharing individual medalist honors with Washington State’s Sang Lee at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate hosted by Washington State. Shaw posted a rare albatross (double eagle) during his third and final round of the event Thursday when he holed a blind 258-yard 2-iron on the 10th hole at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

“It’s a great honor to win’s Player of the Week but this would not have happened without my coaches giving me an opportunity to compete and all of my teammates pushing me further day after day,” Shaw said.

“He’s just getting started,” head coach Steve Desimone said. “We’ve got a real player in the making and it’s great to watch. He’s asserting himself as one of the top players in the country.”

Shaw (68-65-71 – 204, -6) matched Lee (68-65-71 – 204, -6) round-for-round in his third event of the season to lead Cal to a third-place team finish after having finished tied for second in his previous tournament when he helped Cal to a team victory at the Windon Memorial by finishing tied for second individually.

The third-year sophomore has had an outstanding start to his 2014-15 campaign after having played in just six rounds over two tournaments during his first two seasons at Cal under veteran-laden Golden Bear teams that finished tied for third and tied for 11th at the NCAA Championships among many accomplishments over the past two campaigns.

Cal will next be in action October 14-15 when the Bears host the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
