McDonald/Redlicki Notch First-Round Doubles Win in Tulsa
Tulsa, Okla. - Sophomore Mackenzie McDonald and freshman Martin Redlicki teamed together to post an opening-round doubles win at the Saint Francis Health System Men's ITA All-American Championships on Thursday in Tulsa, Okla.
Playing their first college tournament together, McDonald and Redlicki were 7-5, 6-3 winners over Tulsa's Alejandro Espejo and Or Ram-Harel. The Bruin tandem will take on Texas Tech's Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares in Friday's second round.
UCLA's two singles players who were in the main draw both lost in the first round on Thursday. McDonald, a 9-16 seed, was upset by Minnesota's Leandro Toledo, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Fellow sophomroe Gage Brymer also fell in three sets, losing to seventh-seeded Gonzales Austin of Vanderbilt, 7-6(6), 3-6, 6-2. Both Bruin players will be in action in Friday's consolation singles draw.
