Ninth-Ranked Bruins Prepare for Erin Hills Intercollegiate

Oct 4, 2014

The ninth-ranked UCLA men’s golf team travels to Wisconsin this weekend to participate in the Erin Hills Intercollegiate at Erin Hills Golf Course.

The Bruins will be part of an 11-team field that includes nationally ranked teams from Southern Methodist and South Florida, plus host Marquette University, Northwestern and Wisconsin among others.

Head Coach Derek Freeman, who guided UCLA to a co-championship at the season-opening Husky Invitational last month, has announced the following lineup: seniors Manav Shah and Preston Valder, and juniors Lorens Chan, Jonathan Garrick and Jake Kanpp. Freshman Victor Ponte will compete as an unattached individual.

Knapp recorded his first collegiate victory a few weeks ago, firing a 54-hole total of 209 (-7) to win by three shots at the Gold Mountain Olympic Course. His birdie at the 54th hole enabled the Bruins to tie Washington for the team title at 867 (+3). Shah won the individual-only tournament at the Cascade Course, posting a three-round score of 206 (-7) to win by two shots. The win was the first for Shah, a fifth-year senior.

Erin Hills Golf Course, which hosted the 2007 U.S. Amateur, will play to a par of 72 over more than 7,000 yards.
