Four Cougars in Top 15 at NM State Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Washington State University women’s golf team finished the opening round of the NM State Aggie Invitational in second place at the New Mexico State University Golf Course. The Cougars shot 2-over par (290) on the par-72 course, and finished six strokes back from tournament leader, Idaho (-4, 284). WSU is currently one shot ahead of a three-way tie for third place between tournament host New Mexico State, BYU, and Grand Canyon.

Senior Kristen Rue led the Cougars, shooting 1-under par (71). Rue carded four birdies on the day, including three on the back nine. Rue is currently tied for seventh. 

Three other Cougars finished the opening round in the top 15, as senior Lindsay Harmon, junior Rachel Lewis, and freshman Alivia Brown are tied at 13th. The trio carded 73 (+1) on the day and finished one stroke back from a tie for 10th place. Harmon carded three birdies on the day, while Lewis finished 2-under on the back nine.

Junior Nani Yanagi finished one stroke back from the Cougar pack, carding a 74 (+2). Yanagi is currently tied for 29th.

The NM State Aggie Invitational continues Tuesday with the second round of play. Teams will tee off in a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. Mountain/7:30 a.m. Pacific.
