Men’s Golf in 12th at Nike Collegiate Invitational
The Arizona men’s golf team finished the opening day of the Nike Collegiate Invitational in 12th place with a total of 604 (+44).
The Wildcats shot 306 (+26) in Monday’s opening round and carded a 298 (+18) in the afternoon session.
“We are playing against a field in which each of the teams competing could and likely will play at the NCAA’s,” UA head coach Jim Anderson said. “Despite the disappointment of the current standing, we have a lot to play for tomorrow and our team showed heart finishing the round today.”
Senior Alex McMahon was the ‘Cats top performer over the first 36 holes at Colonial Country Club, finishing Monday in 27th place with a total of 147 (+7). Freshman George Cunningham finished the day with a plus-ten, 150 putting him a tie for 38th place. Senior Brenden Redfern and freshman Max Donohue wrapped up Monday’s play with ties for 52nd and 55th place with scores of 153 (+13) and 154 (+14) respectively. Kolton Lapa ended the day with a plus-20, 160, putting the junior in 58th place.
Arizona Golf will play 18 holes tomorrow at 8 A.M. CSTat Colonial Country Club. This will be the third and final round of the inaugural Nike Collegiate Invitational.
