Cougar Soccer Receives National Ranking

Oct 7, 2014

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State soccer team is nationally-ranked in both major polls for the first time in 2014.

The Cougars (7-1-2, 2-1-0 Pac-12) made their debut in the Soccer America Top 25, Tuesday at No. 19. Washington State also moved to No. 21 in the NSCAA Top 25, its highest ranking in that poll this season.

“We are so happy to receive the national recognition,” Cougar Head Coach Steve Nugent said. “It reflects the hard work we have put in so far, but we know there is a lot of soccer left to be played this season. Our goal remains to be playing in December.”

This marks the first time since 2011 that Washington State is ranked in both polls entering a Pac-12 weekend. It is also the highest Soccer America has tabbed the Cougars since a No. 17 ranking in November, 2009. In addition, the NCAA RPI has the Crimson and Gray at No. 10.

Washington State plays its first home match since Aug. 31 when it entertains Arizona at 2 p.m., Friday. The match will take place at Lower Soccer Field and be televised by Pac-12 Networks.
