Dawgs New No. 1 In The Nation
NSCAA Poll
SEATTLE -- This week's NSCAA Poll was released Tuesday morning and Washington is the nation's new No. 1 team. The Dawgs are 9-1-0 on the season and opened up Pac-12 play at 2-0-0 with a weekend sweep over California and Stanford.
The Dawgs have also been named the No. 1 team in the country by every major poll, including Soccer America, TopDrawerSoccer.com and Bennett Rank. Most importantly, the Dawgs are also No. 1 by RPI, the formula used by the NCAA selection committee.
The Dawgs have now won seven in-a-row after the weekend sweep over two ranked opponents. Their nine wins is second most in the country to only Penn State who has 10. The rest of the top five includes No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Penn State, No. 4 Syracuse and No. 5 Georgetown.
To keep their No. 1 ranking, Washington will have to navigate a difficult Pac-12 schedule where five of six conference opponents are currently ranked in the top-25. Aside from UW and UCLA, the nation's top two teams, No. 15 Stanford, No. 22 California and No. 23 Oregon State are also ranked.
This week, the Dawgs travel to Corvallis to face No. 23 Oregon State on Sunday at 3 p.m.
