Harrison Shines as Beavers Open Season

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Junior Sammy Harrison picked up right where she left off Friday evening, recording a pair of first-place finishes as the Oregon State swimming team opened its 2014-15 season by taking on Seattle U and Liberty at the Osborn Aquatic Center.

Harrison, the 2014 Pac-12 Champion in the 1,650 freestyle, finished first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:06.26, beating the second-place finisher by over 20 seconds. The Henderson, Nev. native also placed first in the 500 freestyle, stopping the clock in 4:52.96. She rounded out her day with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle, coming in at 1:51.62.

As a team, the Beavers defeated Seattle U 182.5-79.5, but fell to Liberty 145-112.

Sophomore Czsarina Isleta tallied a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:19.64. She also placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.32) and fourth in the 400 IM (4:35.21). Sophomore Brooke Meyer took second in the 200 butterfly at 2:08.66, and placed third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.88. Junior Amani Amr tallied a pair of top-four finishes, placing third in the 200 backstroke (2:04.35) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (57.91).

Freshman Allie Kilroy finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.28), while classmate Abby Maricle took fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:11.77). Sophomore Claire McLaggan placed fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.50) and freshman Noemie Midrez finished tied for fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:09.85).

The Oregon State squad of Midrez, sophomore Andrea Young, senior Dakota Bloch and Harrison took third in the 400 freestyle relay, coming in at 3:34.42.

The Beavers will return to action next Saturday, when they host USC.
