The Tournament
• Along with 16 teams from around the nation -- including five top-10 programs -- the Stanford women’s golf team will compete in the Stanford Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course from Oct. 17-19.
• The tournament is hosted by Condoleezza Rice, the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy at Stanford’s Hoover Institution.
• The event will span three days and features 54-holes of stroke play. Groups will begin from holes 1 and 10. All players will be re-grouped before each round based on respective scores.
The Field
• The 17-team field includes No. 1 Washington, No. 4 Stanford, No. 5 Northwestern, No. 6 USC, No. 10 UCLA, No. 12 Pepperdine, No. 23 UC Davis, Arizona State, California, Clemson, Georgia, Harvard, Iowa State, Kentucky, Oregon, Oregon State and San Jose State.
• This season’s field will feature an unprecedented three former individual champions, including 2013 medalist Alison Lee of UCLA. Lee will be joined by 2012 winner Kyung Kim of USC and 2011 medalist SooBin Kim of Washington.
Looking Back on 2013
• USC defended its title and claimed first with a tournament-record 21-under (276-272-283). UCLA’s Alison Lee earned medalist honors at 7-under (69-67-70, 206).
The Course
• Located in the foothills overlooking Stanford’s campus, the Stanford University Golf Course is consistently rated as one of the finest courses in the world.
• Designed in 1930 by renowned architects William Bell and George Thomas, the par-71, 6,130-yard course is steeped in tradition. Throughout the years, Stanford has hosted many intercollegiate and non-collegiate events, including the Stanford Intercollegiate, Peg Barnard Intercollegiate, Pac-10 Championship, NCAA Regional, NCAA Women’s Championship, USGA Junior Amateur Qualifying, U.S. Open Qualifying and The Gathering at the Farm, a former Senior PGA Tour event.
• Stanford University Golf Course has produced many influential golfers throughout the years. Former Cardinal who went on to play professionally include Melinda Daniels-Price, Allison Finney, Martha Freitag, Kim Hall, Sara Hallock, 1971 NCAA champion Shelley Hamlin, Hilary Lunke, Stephanie Louden, Mhairi McKay, Joanne Pacillo, Jodi Renner and Mickey Wright.
Last Time Out
• Stanford finished second at the fog-shortened Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational (Oct. 7-8), going 296-294 to finish at 14-over, eight shots clear of third-place UC Davis and 19 shots behind tournament champion and host Washington.
• At the par-72 Sahalee Country Club, Stanford placed three performers in the top-10, highlighted by Lauren Kim’s final-round 2-under 70 to finish fourth. Kim, who was tied for 30th after the opening round, knocked in four birdies in her final stretch to secure a 2-over (76-70) for the event.
• Casey Danielson and defending individual champion Mariah Stackhouse tied for eighth with identical rounds of 72-75, 3-over par for the 36 holes.
