Huskies Honored, Crack Top-25

Oct 14, 2014

SEATTLE – After three straight Pac-12 wins, two over ranked foes, UW women’s soccer debuted in the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) poll at No. 20 this week.

The Huskies have received votes multiple times this season, including the Oct. 7 rankings, but a weekend sweep of previously No. 19 Arizona St. and Arizona bumped UW up to No. 20.

UW sits in a tie with Colorado and Arizona for third place in the Pac-12 with nine points, behind first-place UCLA (13 points) and Stanford (10 points).

The Huskies are also up to No. 11 in the RPI rankings, up from No. 18 last week, and debuted in the TopDrawerSoccer.com rankings at No. 25 and Soccer America at No. 22.

Kate Bennett, a fifth-year senior, was named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Women’s Team of the Week for her performance, scoring a goal in each of the two wins last weekend.

TopDrawerSoccer.com had the following to say about Bennett:

Bennett’s been on an absolute tear of late, and she scored in both wins over Arizona (2-0) and Arizona State (2-1) over the weekend. The fifth-year senior opened the weekend with a first-half goal to tie an eventual comeback win over the Sun Devils, and she scored her sixth of the season for insurance in a two-goal win over Arizona. That helped the Huskies claw into the top 25 this week.

UW has posted a 10-4-0 record, 3-2 in the Pac-12 with Oregon St. coming to town on Monday, Oct. 21. The Beavers are winless in 2014. That game will kick off at 7 p.m. PT and will br broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks.
