Freshmen Duo Blanks SCC, Devils Take 10-0 Victory

Oct 15, 2014

TEMPE – Runs weren’t necessarily coming at a premium on Wednesday evening, but the freshmen pitching duo of Dale Ryndak and Breanna Macha made sure that didn’t matter as the Sun Devil softball program downed Scottsdale Community College, 10-0, in Fall Ball action at Farrington Stadium in Tempe.

Haley Steele and Chelsea Gonzales each had a home run for the Sun Devils, the latter coming on a three-run shot that capped a five-run ninth inning that blew open a relatively close 5-0 contest at the time.

The outcome was never in doubt with the tandem of Ryndak and Macha controlling the pace, however. The Fighting Artichokes managed to get one runner to second base in the whole contest as the duo gave up just three hits with no runs scored, eight strikeouts and just one walk.

Ryndak got the start for the first time this fall, going five innings with two hits given up, four strikeouts, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

Gonzales finished the game 2-5 and also added a double in the contest. The Sun Devils also got a solid game out of Abby Spiel, who finished 2-3 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored.

The Sun Devils will continue the Fall Softball slate on Friday at Farrington Stadium as the team is scheduled to take part in its annual Alumni Game, which will feature the return of Dallas Escobedo and Katie Burkhart to the circle in a feature of the two best pitchers in ASU history.

The game is schedule to begin at 7 p.m. PT and admission will be free to all fans hoping to attend.
