Sahagun, Osborne Advance in Doubles Play at ITA Regional Championships

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The doubles pair of senior Leighann Sahagun and sophomore Alexandra Osborne advanced to the round of 16 in the ITA Regional Championships in San Diego, Calif., Friday. The duo defeated seventh-seeded Hayley Thompson and Ebba Unden of Long Beach State, 8-3.

The ASU pair of Sahagun and Osborne was the first doubles team to knock off one of the eight seeded doubles groups at the tournament. The two Sun Devils will face Jana and Kristin Buth of San Diego State at 8:30 a.m. PT. The winner of the doubles match will advance to the quarterfinals at 10:30 a.m. PT

In singles play, Sahagun fell to six seed Lauren Marker of Arizona in a tough, 6-4, 6-3, battle. Singles quarterfinals begin Saturday featuring eight of the top-16 seeds competing in the four match-ups. In the back draw, Osborne competed against 13-seeded Michaela Cappanolo of Pepperdine where she fell 6-0, 6-2.
