Egger/Hawke move on to Round of 16 at USTA/ITA NW Regional Championships
STANFORD, Calif. – The nationally-ranked doubles pair of seniors Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke continued their run at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Saturday as they moved on to the Round of 16.
The second-seeded duo defeated USF’s Christian Brockstedt and Jason Lee, 8-5, to move on the next round for the second-straight year.
In singles action, the Huskies had three advance to the round of 16, including two freshmen. Egger first defeated Fresno State’s Youssef Hassan before falling to Gonzaga’s Alvaro Nazal, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3). Newcomer Mitch Stewart posted a 6-4, 7-6 (10) win over Cal’s Filip Bergevi in the round of 32 before ninth-seeded David Hsu of Stanford earned a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to end the freshman’s run in the tournament.
Jake Douglas was one of four unseeded entries in the round of 128 to make it to the round of 16 and was the only freshman to make it that far in the tournament. Douglas outlasted ninth-seeded Mads Engsted of California 6-7 (6), 7-5, 7-5 before ending his run against Ashot Khacharyan of Santa Clara, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
The Huskies remaining duo of Egger and Hawke will take on Oregon’s Daniel Sardu and Joey Swaysland on Sunday at 10 a.m.
