Pickerell, Saelee Lead Beavers On Day Two
STANFORD, Calif. – Junior Chelsea Saelee continued her strong play with an even-par 71 and junior Ashlee Pickerell carded a 1-over 72 to lead the Oregon State women’s golf team during second-round play at the Stanford Intercollegiate on Saturday.
The Beavers shot a 12-over 296 for the second straight day at the par-71, 6,130-yard Stanford Golf Course to remain in 14th place in the 17-team field. The final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday and live scoring is available at birdiefire.com.
“Today both Ashlee and Chelsea played competitively and got it under par for much of their rounds,” Oregon State head coach Sammie Chergo said. “Krissy (Peterson) finished strong after a slow start. (Assistant coach) Dawn (Shockley) and I both look forward to this group improving and playing with a competitive spirit.”
After opening the tourney with a 1-under 70 that included four birdies, Saelee was able to drop another four birdies in the second round to go with four bogeys for an even-par 71. Her two-day total of 141 puts her in a tie for 12th place and a chance to post the second top-10 finish of her career.
Pickerell started on fire with a 3-under 33 over her first nine holes before finishing with two bogeys and a double for a 1-over 72. The solid round moved her up the leaderboad into a tie for 52nd place with a 6-over 76-72--148.
Sophomore Krissy Peterson shot a 4-over 75 after opening with a 7-over 78 to move into a tie for 70th with an 11-over 153. Freshman Hannah Swanson is also tied for 70th with an 11-over 75-78--153 and senior Anica Yoo is a stroke back with a 12-over 75-79--154 for a tie for 76th.
Bronte Law of UCLA leads the individual race with a 6-under 65-71--136 and the Bruins (8-under 56) hold the team lead over Stanford (6-under 562) and rival USC (5-under 563).
The field includes five of the nation’s top-10 teams, including No. 1 Washington, No. 4Stanford, No. 5 Northwestern, No. 6 USC and No. 10 UCLA.
