Women's Tennis Players Continue Action at ITA Regionals

San Diego, Calif. - Members of the UCLA women's tennis team completed their third day of competition at the 2014 USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships on Saturday.

Bruin senior Kaitlin Ray headed into the day as UCLA's last hope for a main draw singles title, as she was squaring off against top-seeded Zoe Scandalis of USC in the quarterfinals. Scandalis prevailed in the end, notching a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

In main draw doubles action, the Bruins entered the day with two teams still alive, however both fell before the day was through. Top-seeded Terri Fleming and Catherine Harrison suffered an 8-7(5) loss to Tami Nguyen and Dora Somoracz of SDSU in the round of 16. Kyle McPhillips and Kristin Wiley were able to win their round of 16 match 8-2 over San Diego's Drew Spinosa and Marta Stojanovic before suffering an 8-4 loss to fifth-seeded Lorraine Guillermo and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai of Pepperdine.

One bright spot for UCLA on the day came in the consolation singles draw, where freshman Maia Magill moved into the semifinals following a 4-6, 6-3, (10-8) win over Long Beach State's Ebba Unden. Awaiting her in the semifinals will be UC Irvine's Sarah Gong.
