All-Stanford Semifinal

STANFORD, Calif.- Freshmen Tom Fawcett and David Hsu will square off in an all-Stanford semifinal (10 a.m.) when play continues Monday at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

During Sunday’s quarterfinal action, Fawcett defeated Fresno State’s Tom McIntosh 6-2, 6-2 while Hsu cruised past California’s JT Nishimura 6-4, 6-2. Fawcett has won all four of his tournament matches in straight sets while Hsu has pulled out a pair of three-set victories.

The other semifinal pits Gonzaga’s Alvaro Nazal against Santa Clara’s Ashot Khacharyan at 11 a.m.

In addition to Stanford, the ITA's Northwest Region schools are comprised of the following: California, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, Santa Clara, UC Davis and Washington.

Ryan Thacher captured Stanford’s most recent singles title at the event, defeating California’s Ben McLachlan 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 back in 2011 in Seattle. It’s been five years since the Cardinal walked away with a doubles title, with Bradley Klahn and Thacher prevailing 8-3 over Fresno State’s duo of Mirko Zapletal and Taylor Leiby.
